Crackdown on Drunk Drivers Taking the 'Scenic Way Home'

August 21 — Governor Timothy M. Kaine today launched the 2008 Checkpoint Strikeforce campaign, a statewide initiative combining enforcement and education efforts to raise public awareness of drunk driving. The 2008 campaign begins on the eve of a mid-Atlantic states regional initiative targeting impaired driving on rural roadways. More than 75 state and local law enforcement agencies across the state are participating in the initiative.

Governor Kaine Announces the Launch of "Think...Don't Drink" Initiative

August 21 — Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced the launch of the Think!...Don't Drink initiative, a campaign to reduce underage drinking in Virginia. The program will enable community civic organizations and parents to address the issue by providing them with monetary and informational resources.

Governor Announces 5,000th DNA Databank Hit

August 5 — Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced that the Virginia Department of Forensic Science (DFS) has obtained its 5,000th hit to Virginia's Offender DNA Databank. A "hit" occurs when a DNA profile developed from any biological fluid, tissue, or hair recovered from a crime scene is matched to a DNA profile from an individual or a forensic case in the Commonwealth's DNA Databank.
