Commission on Sexual Violence

In October 2006, Governor Kaine established the Governor’s Commission on Sexual Violence to improve the treatment of crime victims with emphasis on efforts to prevent and respond to sexual violence, by virtue of Executive Order 38.

Under the leadership of Secretaries John Marshall and Marilyn Tavenner, the Commission has focused its efforts to promoting appropriate and uniform criminal justice responses to sexual violence, comprehensive services to victims and effective prevention strategies. Since that time, the Commission has met three times, held four regional input sessions and nine subcommittee meetings. As a result, the Commission has developed 27 recommendations for the Governor.
